What are the photograph image requirements? When you upload an image of your artwork make sure that the image is of high quality. The image must be properly focused and should not show any reflections from a flash. Crop the images so that frames and or background walls are not visible and make sure the photograph is an accurate representation of your artwork. Here are some simple guidelines to help you create the best possible photographs: Unless you are using an indirect flash umbrella, the use of a flash should be avoided as it can cause reflections on your artwork. The simplest way to go about taking your photograph is to use natural light. If the sun is very bright then put the artwork in the shade but make sure there are no shadows covering parts of your artwork. Take the picture at an angle perpendicular to your artwork. This can be done by putting the artwork straight against a wall. Make sure that the camera is parallel and level with your artwork. If your camera is not centered with your artwork your photograph will look distorted. To take steady shots of your artwork use a tripod or if you don’t have one you can always use a box or chair to support your camera. Try to take the picture from a sufficient distance from your artwork. If you have a lens with a zoom it is better to step back and zoom in. Take several photographs of the same artwork and then select your best image once they are on the computer. Then start cropping the artwork image so that only the artwork is visible. There are many free tools available that allow you to crop your image. One example is Irfanview which can be found here: www.irfanview.com Many digital cameras nowadays take very large images. These can take a long time to upload. Using the same software with which you cropped your pictures you can also scale them to an appropriate width. Aim for about 600 pixels wide. Keep in mind, that Images which are too small will lose quality and appear hazy. Buying Artwork on Art Online39.
